Black Sun ยท Tonder Marsh

Black Sun from Hoejer.

One of the great moments of the marsh: thousands of starlings gather in the evening sky before settling for the night in the reed beds.

The sky comes alive just before sunset.

Black Sun is one of Denmark's most fascinating natural phenomena. Large flocks of starlings move in waves above the marsh, and in the best periods the sky can almost turn black with birds.

In Tonder Marsh, Black Sun is typically seen in spring from early March to early April and in autumn from late August to late October. Tours are arranged on selected dates, when timing, weather and season give the best chances.
